Twenty five years of English Language opportunities in Buenos Aires
11 December 2008
Cambridge ESOL and the Buenos Aires Open Centre have recently celebrated their 25 year anniversary of working together. To mark the occasion a plaque – signed by Dr Michael Milanovic, Chief Executive of Cambridge ESOL – was presented to Veronica Cameron, Centre Examinations Manager of the Buenos Aires Open Centre in celebration of a quarter of century of collaboration.
The event, held on 23 October, was attended by around 300 delegates from a range of backgrounds such as centre supplier institutions, Centre Examinations Managers, Oral Examiners and Team Leaders. Mrs Sylvia Holmes Brown, founder of the Buenos Aires Open Centre was congratulated in a special presentation and a specially commissioned video was screened for the occasion. This documented the origins of the centre and paid tribute to all those who helped make it a success. A congratulatory letter written by Sue Randall, Director of Business Development and Business Management Group at Cambridge ESOL was also read out at the opening ceremony.
The Buenos Aires Open Centre is one of the largest Cambridge ESOL centres in the world and gives thousands of candidates each year the opportunity to take Cambridge ESOL English tests. This helps to support the education and training of students and teachers in Argentina and popular exams include: Cambridge Young Learners English (YLE), Key English Test (KET), Preliminary English Test (PET) and First Certificate in English (FCE).
Speaking of the occasion, Litty Mora Development Manager for Cambridge ESOL in Argentina, said:
“We would like to thank the centre for all their dedication and support over the last twenty five years. This successful collaboration has given Argentinian students the opportunity to take an English test that really makes a difference. I look forward to continuing our work together in the future.”
Veronica Sylvia Cameron, Centre Exams Manager at the Buenos Aires Open Centre commented:
“Twenty five years is a long time, and I consider that our continued success has been due to the quality of the exams as well as the excellent service we provide to each and every candidate.
As Peter Hargreaves used to say ‘we are the human face of the syndicate’. This entails an enormous responsibility towards Cambridge and every single candidate. We will continue to try and live up to that model.”
