Earliest language teaching methods revisited

Some of the earliest forms of teaching languages through pictures, sound, and gesture will be covered in a lecture at the University of Cambridge’s Festival of Ideas later on this month. Barry Jones, Fellow in Modern Languages at Homerton College will present “Modern language teaching: ways and means, past and present” which will cover a range of methods and techniques some dating as far back as 1658. The talk is jointly sponsored by Cambridge ESOL, Routes into Languages East and Cambridge University Press and will take place on Thursday 29 October
