Earlier this month 55 candidates from the OECT (Ordre des Experts Comptables de Tunisie ) were awarded with an International Certificate in Financial English (Cambridge ICFE) at a ceremony organised by the British Council. The candidates were presented certificates by HM Ambassador for Tunisia Christopher O’Connor on 3rd November.

Cambridge ICFE is a professional English exam developed by Cambridge ESOL in conjunction with the ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). It has been designed to help professionals demonstrate they have the financial English skills needed to operate successfully in the world of work. Craig McWilliam, Cambridge ESOL’s Regional Manager for the area said:

“The students should be very proud of what they have achieved today. We’re very excited to have ICFE test takers in Tunisia and all of the students have shown a high level of commitment to language learning.”

Sarah Rolph Deputy Director of the British Council said:

“The president of Tunisia Zine El Abidine Ben Ali is very keen to encourage Tunisians working in the financial sector to improve their English in order to be able to work internationally and we are very pleased to be able to help Tunisian accountants achieve this goal”.

The test focuses on topics that finance professional would expect to encounter in their daily lives and is assessed in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for languages – an internationally recognised benchmark of language ability.
