IELTS Celebrates 20 successful years
24 December
Leading figures from the world of language testing, assessment and migration gathered together in London in November to celebrate the 20th anniversary of IELTS – The International English Language Testing System. The event gave guests the opportunity to celebrate IELTS' success, as the market leading English language test for entry to higher education and for migration, and to recognise the new challenges facing IELTS as it moves into its third decade.
Guests from around the world joined senior staff from the British Council and Cambridge ESOL to enjoy a drinks reception and dinner held at the stunning top floor of London’s Millbank Tower. Members of the original IELTS development team were present, along with current test managers and principals from leading test centres around the world. Test users were also represented, including delegates from major universities in both the UK and overseas, and representatives from the Australian and Canadian High Commissions.
Speakers included Dr Mike Milanovic, Chief Executive of Cambridge ESOL, Martin Davidson Chief Executive of the British Council and leading linguist Professor David Crystal.
