Navitas English offers computer-based Cambridge ESOL language tests

7 December

Navitas English, a division of the global education group Navitas, has signed an agreement with the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations to administer computer-based Cambridge ESOL tests. Cambridge ESOL offer the world’s leading range of qualifications for learners and teachers of English with approximately three million people in 130 countries taking the exams each year. Navitas English – through its iconic brands ACE and ATTC – has been offering traditional paper-based Cambridge ESOL exams for international students since the 1980s.

Navitas English Director Australian TESOL Training centre Eileen Morley said Navitas English currently offered a range of Cambridge ESOL examinations at its centres in Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns and Perth.

“The new agreement will allow Navitas English to administer the computer-based exams at a number of its centres across Australia,” she said. “The introduction of the computer-based exam will be of direct benefit to our students who will now have the choice between paper and computer exams. We will be offering the new computer-based exam at ACE centres in Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and Cairns,” Ms Morley said.

The introduction of the computer-based exams also means that students will have an increased number of date options to be tested and faster access to results with scores available three weeks after the test.

Duncan Rayner, Cambridge ESOL’s Development Manager in the region said: “We’re offering a growing number of tests in this format as it makes it possible to add more exam dates, shorten registration times and speed up access to results. This will be a real benefit to English language students in Australia and we’re very pleased to be working with Navitas English on this project.”

The exams at the Navitas English centres are expected to commence in Brisbane and Sydney in February 2010 and Perth and Cairns in March 2010.
